Over the weekend I made the trip out to Celo–boyfriend, dog, muslin, and sewing kit in tow. The agenda: hiking, swimming, and the first fitting for Anna’s dress! I was a little anxious, though its hard to be stressed amongst such lush, mountainous scenery and very good company.
So the moment came after we had tramped through the woods for Anna to try on the muslin mock-up. I knew it would be a little short, considering I was using a petite dress form for a woman who is beautifully long. but…it worked–I hadn’t failed at creating a garment from a rough sketch of an idea! In fact we both stood in front of the mirror smiling at the beginnings to what will be something beautiful. I marked a few changes in the darts, and arm hole openings, but overall feel like I’m good to keep going!
Now the next step is finding the lining for the dress, and creating the final mock up before using the raw silk, hemp fabric. Anna comes to town next weekend, so hopefully I’ll be ready for her!
